Welcome back to this new chapter in the history of the Mansion House. We advise you to read the following information prior to visiting us.
As lockdown has eased, we understand that there will be questions and concerns ahead of your visit. At all times, your safety is our priority, and we want to make sure you can arrive for your visit confident in our team, the house, and everything in between. We’ve put a number of steps in place to ensure you are safe during your visit, and below you’ll find an overview of what you can expect before, during and after your visit.
Our safety and hygiene standards have been awarded the Visit England industry standard, Good to Go, so you can be reassured that we adhere to Government and industry guidelines at all stages of your experience.
We will be updating this page regularly, and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any additional concerns or requirements.
We are open to visitors from Wednesday to Sunday, with a series of bookable time slots for self-guided visits. Booking is essential, and we will not be accepting any walk-in visits at this time.
All visitors will be required to wear face coverings to allow us to keep everyone as safe as possible.
Please note that if you or anyone in your group has any signs or symptoms of Covid-19, including – but not limited to – a temperature, a new and persistent cough, or a loss of taste or smell, then please follow NHS guidance and stay at home.
Booking couldn’t be simpler. Due to current government restrictions, we are only able to allow one household or bubble in at once, so the time slot you book will be just for you.
We have three time slots per hour, each with a maximum of six spaces, so while there may be other people in the house with you, we have routes and distancing in place to allow you to feel as safe as possible. We will ask on entry whether you’re from the same household, and if not we will be unable to admit you.
During the booking process, you will be asked to fill in some personal information so we can process your order. Our Privacy Notice outlines how we use and store that data.
REFUNDS AND RESCHEDULING
We understand that these are difficult times and situations can quickly become out of your control. To allow us to be flexible and to open the tours up to others, we ask you to let us know as soon as possible if you’re not able to attend your allotted timeslot. You can request a cancellation up to 24 hours before your tour.
From 17th October 2020, York has entered Tier 2 lockdown meaning we can only allow one household to book per time slot. Only SIX people are permitted during each time slot, including children of all ages.
Numbers of people in the building will be closely monitored, and staff will be situated throughout the house to ensure everything is as safe as possible.
VISITING WITH CHILDREN
There is plenty to keep all ages entertained, and everyone is welcome. Our app creates a more immersive and interactive experience for little ones, and there are interactives in all the rooms, which are cleaned regularly and really bring everything to life.
PRIVATE TOURS AND LARGE GROUPS
If you have a specific interest or would prefer a tour for a larger group, contact firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know what you have in mind – we have a range of options available and are happy to work with you to create something new.
PPE: MASKS AND GLOVES
Following government and industry guidance, all visitors must wear a face covering, unless you are exempt. If you do not have one, we will have some disposable options available on site. As well as this, you are very welcome to wear any additional PPE that makes you feel most comfortable.
QUEUING AND ADMISSION
When you arrive at York Mansion House, you will see clear signage on the railings, on the steps, and markers on the pavement that will show you where to wait ahead of your tour timeslot. This will be to the left as you look at the house.
Please arrive at the time you have booked for, and have your booking confirmation ready. Our house team will welcome you and take payment for everyone in your party.
STAFF AND PPE
All staff members will be wearing visors, which belong exclusively to them. With hand sanitiser throughout the house and in staff areas, each member of the team will ensure their hands are cleaned regularly, as well as keeping staff areas and toilets separate and managed with distancing within the team.
SAFETY AND HYGIENE
As you move through the house, you will find clear directional signage, and plenty of sanitising points in each room. This includes cleaning areas next to each interactive, which will require touching.
We have a thorough cleaning schedule throughout the day, and the whole house is cleaned at the start of each day.
We have accessible toilets throughout the building – one on the ground floor next to the Gift Shop, and two on the first floor. You are free to use these during your visit, and they are cleaned hourly.
Following our restoration, we’re pleased to be able to welcome everyone without restriction, with an off-street ramped entrance, and lifts throughout the house.
If you think you’ll require assistance during your visit, please contact us ahead of time so we can ensure you’re welcomed correctly. Should you need to use the lift, we ask that only one person – or two people, if one is a carer – uses it at once. A member of staff can show you exactly where to go and how to use the lift.
Our gift shop will be open during your visit, and there will be a number of safety measures in place. These will include plastic screens, an item handling area and staggered queuing, all of which will be guided by a staff member.
Please note: We will not be accepting cash, but all cards and contactless payments are welcome.
For all existing bookings in the coming months, please be reassured that we are monitoring Government guidelines closely to assess what we anticipate to be possible.
