THE NEW YEAR CLEAN
After another busy year at York Mansion House, at 5pm on December 22nd this magnificent building will close its doors on 2019, and begin 2020 undergoing essential conservation work, getting the house and collections ready for the year ahead. As a living building that welcomes thousands of visitors each year, as well as being the official residence of the Lord Mayor of York, regular expert conservation is essential to ensure the house maintains the standards of grandeur befitting its lavish history.
During the January closure, staff and volunteers will be working tirelessly to dismantle The Gingerbread House, and begin the mammoth task of cleaning the precious collection of silver, cleaning and restoring the original furniture, dusting those hard-to-reach ledges, and completing an endless list of cleaning, washing, and re-furnishing. Working room-by-room, the team will ensure all items and spaces are returned to their original glory before they are unveiled once again to the public on January 25th.
