York Mansion House reopened in 2017 after an HLF restoration project. The house is an iconic symbol of civic democracy in the City of York, representing over 800 years of the Mayoralty of York. It is an ideal venue for exploring the history of the City of York, citizenship and civic democracy.

Explore the historic Georgian kitchen, listen to the gossip at the 1785 dining table, view the city sword and mace and get hands on with the interactive in the Silver Galleries.

Each room in the house has a set of sensory and tactile resources to explore the key themes of the house such as “How did the Butler keep the silver clean?”
