Learning and Education

York Mansion House offers a variety of ways to inspire students, support home educators, and make special interests and lifelong learning accessible.

We understand that during the ongoing pandemic a lot is uncertain and there are many changing priorities. While we always welcome visits from schools and groups, we have created a number of online learning resources to support distance learning, and to bring the house and its unique civic history to life.

Schools and Home Educators

From early years to higher education, we offer a range of workshops and activities to support the curriculum across all key stages.

Our education team have created a diverse programme entirely unique to the Mansion House. Walking students through historical events, the function of democracy, or life below stairs, the interactive workshops can be delivered exactly as presented, or used as a starting point for creating something bespoke.

If you want to explore local democracy, eighteenth century life or social history, our workshops uniquely provide everything you need to get going.

Virtual Learning

Learning virtual

While we are all unable to meet, speak to us about delivering a virtual workshop, lecture or tour. We can tailor these to your own interests or requirements, allowing us to share the house with you safely.

Learning Resources

As well as virtual talks and workshops, we have created some fantastic learning resources to support homeschooling, or simply to pass the time on a rainy day.

There are crosswords to do, fans to make, and even an exhibition to curate, so let your little ones express their creativity! We also have a YouTube channel where you can find more information about the house, its secrets, and a recipe or two.
